The following is a list of typical events and programs sponsored by the PTA throughout the year. We are always looking for volunteers and new ideas

Art-a-Facts – Each year the Carroll Will Trust provides the funds for the children to attend a different cultural/artistic museum or event. The PTA collaborates with the school to organize these trips and provides supplemental funding.

Barnes and Noble Night – Fun night with the family!  Kids have story time with their teachers and other community members.  There is also a performance by the school choir and a craft table.  Purchase your child’s favorite books to encourage continued reading.

Book Fairs – Students, parents, and family members are able to purchase great books at reasonable prices at the school. Each grade has an assigned day of the week to attend and purchase books.


Designer Bingo- A fun night out for adults.  Play some Bingo, enjoy snacks and refreshments, and maybe even win big from a selection of designer goods!

Field Day – A day of fun and games in late spring for the students in the Gymnasium, playground, and athletic fields. 

Garden Club/Beautification – Children grades 3 and up may join the Garden Club to help with the beautification of the school.  Run by teachers, supported by PTA.

Gift Wrap – A major fundraiser for the PTA - Charleston gift wrap, home goods, and candy are sold in the Fall.

Holiday Parade – Merchantville School students walk together in the town-sponsored Holiday Parade.  Students are dressed in a new and original theme each year and accompany a larger-than-life parade float.

Holiday Shop – The PTA Holiday Shop allows children to be independent while shopping for gifts for their family.  A wide variety of items are available to choose from at a great price.

Intramural Basketball – Open to girls and boys in grades 3 – 8 during the winter months. Organized and coached by PTA members. 

Jr. High Dances – Held in the gymnasium or cafeteria for the junior high students.  PTA-organized and run.


Kentucky Derby Fundraiser– A basket fundraiser held on the day of the Kentucky Derby. Dress up, wear your best hat and win big at the races!


Tea Party-A basket fundraiser open to adults and children.  A fun time to enjoy tea, sandwiches and sweets with your friends and family!  Each Tea Party has a unique theme which may involve special costumes and activities.

LEGO Club – LEGO lovers unite and meet once a week to build with other students in the School Library.  PTA-organized and run with cooperation from the lovely library staff.

Music Enrichment/Guitar Lessons – We partner with EilandArts to offer beginner guitar lessons at no cost to the student.

Public Relations – Different vehicles (such as the social media, website, signage board, and flyers) used to communicate the “going-ons” of the School and PTA.


Pumpkin Patch – Family-friendly fundraiser featuring pumpkins to purchase and decorate, games and food.

Reflections Program – A national PTA program designed to enhance arts education. It provides opportunities for students to express themselves in six categories and to receive positive recognition for their artistic efforts.

Room Parents – Room Parents assist teachers with class parties and trips.  They also act as liaison to the parents in their class for other PTA related functions.

Scholarships/Award – A scholarship to high school seniors who are graduates of the Merchantville School and savings bonds to MS Eighth Grade Graduates.  Students must apply for scholarships. 

Science Expo Night – A themed STEM night in which students compete to successfully complete a challenge.  


Skating Parties – PTA sponsored skate nights at the Cherry Hill Skating Center. 

Spirit After Dark – Held in the winter, this program organizes children by grades to compete in fun and zany relay races.


Spirit Wear – Web store for ordering school spirit gear including clothes and other accessories. 

​Student Ambassadors – Junior High students apply for this position Ambassadors perform community service projects and assist PTA with various functions such as tours of the school, etc.

Student Directory – Online directory available to all parents through Konstella, a private and secure service that keeps you informed on school activities and connected with other parents at the school.  

Take Your Family to School Week – A week of activities focused on getting parents more involved in the school.  Visitation of classes and a Family Dinner are traditionally held.

Teacher Appreciation Week – A week-long thank you to our hardworking teachers with fun activities and recognition.

Teacher Back-to-School Breakfast – PTA members hold a Breakfast for the Teachers’ first official day back at school.

Talent Show – Singing, dancing, and other exciting performances.. by students, teachers, and staff!
